One Dead, Three Trapped in Takoma Park Crash

Three people were trapped and one person ejected and pronounced dead on the scene of an accident late Monday night.

The accident happened at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Erskine Street in Takoma Park. Units from Takoma Park, Chillum-Adelphi and Hyattsville were dispatched at about 11:15 for a reported vehicle accident.

The crews removed the roof of the car to quickly extricate the three trapped inside within a few minutes.

Those three victims -- all priority one traumas -- were taken to MedStar and one other with less serious injuries was as well. All of the victims were in the one car that hit a telephone pole sideways. Police said the car was going at a high rate of speed when it lost control and went airborne, striking the pole. All of the occupants of the car were believed to be teenagers.

The male victim who was ejected from the car was pronounced dead on the scene with massive traumatic injuries.

The priority two victim and one of the victims considered a priority one trauma were treated and released from MedStar. A third was taken into surgery for a fractured femur and remained in serious, but stable condition this morning. The fourth also was taken into the oeprating room at MedStar to remedy an arterial bleed. He was also in serious, but stable condition at the hospital Tuesday.
